The Emotionally Flatlined

"Replied "k" and meant it with their whole chest. Not sad, just... gone."
DEAD — The Emotionally Flatlined

You are not depressed. You are not fine. You have spent the last six Tuesdays in the same shirt and you do not remember deciding to. Your face, at rest, is a face that has entered into a long, quiet negotiation with existence itself — one you're not exactly trying to win.

This isn't a cry for help. This isn't anything. You replied "k" to a message asking if you were okay and then slept for nine hours and it was fine. It was fine. People ask you what's wrong and you genuinely don't know. Nothing is wrong. Nothing is right either. Your group chat hit "good morning" at 2pm and left it at that.

You're not performing apathy. This is the real thing. The soul has, for all practical purposes, left the building — but the building is still standing, still paying rent, still turning up to things. Low-key. Medium-dressed. Emotionally housesat by nobody.

  1. Reply "k" to serious questions and mean it
  2. Have gone silent in a group chat for 72+ hours without noticing
  3. Say "no thoughts, head empty" out loud and unironically
  4. Stare directly at a wall for fourteen minutes without blinking
  5. Consume one (1) meal per day at an unspecified hour
  6. Read a message, plan the reply, close the app, and consider it handled
Not sad. Not mad. Just... deeply, profoundly, unnegotiably unavailable.
